Planning

The primary function of the Planning Department is to manage the regulatory process for development proposals submitted to the Planning Board under the Easthampton Zoning Bylaw and the Subdivision Control law. As part of that process, the Planning Department evaluates development proposals for their contribution towards community planning goals as documented in the current Easthampton Master Plan, and to assess their impacts on the environment, transportation system, and town character. The Planning Department meets with neighbors and developers, coordinates the departmental review and administration of the proposals, schedules public hearings, drafts decisions, and manages performance guarantees for the completion of approved
The Planning Department also oversees several grant programs including the City's Community Development Block Grants.

As part of a community wide conservation and sustainability program, residents can purchase reduced price rain barrels from the Great American Rain Barrel Company through a partnership with the Easthampton Planning Department and a statewide purchasing agreement. The 60-gallon rain barrels are made entirely from repurposed food grade shipping drums and are available in three colors (green, brown, or gray) for $69 each.
